Khariar college was established on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dasami on 21st of October,1977.Having affiliated to Sambalpur University,the college began with only 67 students.It got permanent government concurrence in 1979 for IA & 1980 for BA.In 1986,the college shifted to its present new building,built on the donated plot by RANI SAHIBA Soubhagya Manjari Devi which comprises of a land area of 30.25 Acres.The new campus is named Braj Raj Vihar.This institution having accredated by NAAC got autonomous status from the session 2012-13. At present the college has Arts,Science and Commerce at the +2 & +3 level with honours in all affiliated subjects and introducing P.G. Course in M.A.(ODIA/HINDI/Pol.Sc.) and M.Sc(Chemistry).Special coaching beyond the class hours is provided to the students at the +3 level.There are scope to acquire Certificate and Diploma Courses viz. Journalism and Mass Communication,Environmental Management,Sports Management etc. in addition to Degree Courses.
